The purpose of the Eakin seal or the Adapt ring is to work on the principle of sealing the wafer/skin barrier to the skin similar to the way a washer seals a pipe fitting. Especially with an Ileostomy where keeping the stool off of the skin is most imperative in preventing break down. A proper use of the seal is critical to its proper performance. It is also critical to extending the life of a skin barrier to its fullest potential.
